Portrait photography and Photo workshops

HALI KESSLER
Photographer/Teacher/Yearbook Adviser
For more than 30 years, I have dedicated my career to teaching and creating art, with a focus on helping students discover their voice through visual storytelling. As a high school art teacher, I specialize in photography, photojournalism, art history, filmmaking, broadcast journalism, and yearbook production, courses that invite students to engage with the world around them while developing technical skills and artistic vision.
My passion lies in portrait photography. Whether guiding students through lighting and composition or working on my own projects, I strive to capture the essence of people and their stories. Over the years, I have led workshops in photography and visual storytelling, empowering artists of all levels to see with fresh eyes and tell meaningful narratives through their work.
As an educator, I believe art is not just about technique, but about connection, between artist and subject, creator and community, classroom and world. Many of my former students have gone on to pursue careers in the arts, and I take great pride in seeing them succeed, knowing that our time together sparked curiosity, confidence, and creativity.
When I’m not in the classroom, I continue my own work as a portrait photographer, blending documentary-style authenticity with fine art sensibilities. My teaching, art practice, and workshops all share the same goal: to help others see the beauty, complexity, and humanity in the stories that surround us.
